When In Doubt

May 10, 2026    Neal Nemeth

In verses 1-6 of Matthew chapter 11, we are re-introduced to John the Baptist, this time in prison, wondering if Jesus truly is the Messiah he was to prepare the way for. He believed the Messiah would execute judgment and set the captives free, and here he finds himself a prisoner.

Pastor Neal preaches from this text on something every believer eventually faces: God not doing what we expected him to do. Jesus didn't do what John expected him to do. So Jesus sends his disciples as messengers to give John a firsthand account of what Jesus is actually doing. So what do we do when the confusion sets in and our faith starts to waver? When God seems to do something different, or even the opposite of what we expected him to do, focus on what God is doing over what he is not doing.
